What Millboard Is
Millboard is a UK-engineered composite decking product using a mould-formed manufacturing process that replicates real timber grain in fine detail, rather than the extruded, more uniform look of standard composite boards.
What Makes It Different
Millboard boards are formed from individual hand-selected oak timber moulds, giving each board unique, realistic grain — a closer visual match to real hardwood than most composite alternatives on the market.
Performance
Millboard is fully waterproof through its core, doesn’t splinter, and resists staining, mould, and algae growth — a genuine advantage on shaded or low-airflow decks where composite boards can otherwise get slippery.
Cost Position
Millboard sits at the premium end of composite decking, reflecting its manufacturing process and finish quality. It costs more upfront than standard composite or hardwood but requires no ongoing maintenance product spend.
Install Notes From The Decksmith
Millboard requires a specific substructure spacing and fixing system — it isn’t a drop-in replacement for standard composite install methods. Getting this wrong affects both appearance and warranty. It’s most recently gone into a Vaucluse install in Weathered Oak finish, which shows the grain realism well against a coastal backdrop.
