Before
The area that needed covering was existing tiles and garden. A conventional framed deck would have sat too high. LowDeck let me keep the new surface down over what was already there.
What this one needed
Keep the trees. Cover the tiles and the garden. Get a full-size deck onto a site you can only reach over a fence. The planters were built around the trees that were staying, so the finished deck works around them rather than asking them to move.
Tight access, LowDeck over the tiles
This one was a large deck on a small site. Eighty-four square metres of Millboard, and the only way onto the property was over the boundary fence. Every board, every length of LowDeck, every tool went up and over. There was nowhere to park a pile of material on the street and walk it through, so I had to handle and store it on the job as I went.
The heat was the other half of it. I tied a shade tarp up so I could keep working through the day instead of waiting the weather out.
LowDeck is the frame under the Millboard. It sits down over the existing tiles and garden so the finished height stays usable against the house. The boards on top are Millboard.
Planters around the trees
The trees stayed. I built planters around them so the deck runs up to the planting instead of leaving a raw hole or asking for the trees to come out.

My take on this one
The deck itself is straightforward Millboard on LowDeck. What made it a Rose Bay job was the site: fence-only access, nowhere to store a full 84 square metres of material, heat that needed a tarp, and trees that were staying. That is the part most people do not see in the finished photos.
