Luxury Pool Deck Builders Clovelly — A Millboard Coppered Oak Transformation
Less deck around the pool, more lawn, an extended entertaining zone at the back of the garden, a hidden trap-door staircase to the pool equipment, and Millboard Coppered Oak across the lot. Stainless cable balustrade and frameless glass pool fence to keep the ocean view clean.
Stage 1 — The Brief & Demolition
Before. The original deck was too tight for the pool area but also squeezing the lawn, brief was to gain more lawn, and more deck.
The old frame— rotten, no ventilation, time to go.
The solution, access is needed to the pool equipment which is under the deck and the original external stairs was wasting metres of yard. By incorporating a staircase below the deck with a service hatch I can get more lawn and More Deck!.
Stage 2 — Frame & The Secret Steps
Framing begins. Treated pine H3, every exposed cut hit with EcoSeal Green timber treatment.
Extension beam set. Kookaburra inspection checking level for me.
Framing progress. Not a bad office view.
Joist tape going on. Every top edge gets protected.
Frame almost fully taped, joist hangers set, trap door framed in.
The secret stairs— hidden under the deck, full access to the pool equipment.
Bottom of stair stringers, waterproofed.
Trap door open.
Trap door closed— reads as continuous deck.
Stage 3 — Millboard Coppered Oak
Decking on site three days ahead— letting it acclimate to the coast.
First boards down. Hidden fix system, zero visible screws.
Gas strut detail— door lifts and holds itself open.
Recessed flush latch and hinges. No hardware on the deck surface.
End-of-day site clean. Standard.
No, that’s not timber. Hand-moulded from real oak — can’t tell, huh.
When mother nature cleans the site overnight.
Friday clean— looking good.
Stage 4 — Balustrade, Pool Fence & Landscaping
Frameless glass pool fence and stainless cable balustrade going in.
316 stainless cable— keeps the ocean view clean.
Final clean.
Fresh turf in. The lawn the client wanted is now twice what it was.
The Result
Less deck in the pool area for more lawn, more usable space by extending the deck out and covering the stairs, ocean view preserved. Done.
